Sundar Pichai Announces Google’s Plan to Establish Fintech Operation Center in Gujarat Following Meeting with PM Modi at the White House

Google CEO Sundar Pichai, following his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House, announced that the company plans to invest $10 billion in India’s digitization fund. Pichai also revealed that Google will establish a global fintech operation center in Gujarat’s GIFT City.

During the meeting, Pichai expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet with PM Modi during this historic visit to the US. He highlighted Google’s commitment to investing $10 billion in India’s digitization fund and shared the news of the fintech operation center’s opening in Gujarat. Pichai praised PM Modi’s visionary Digital India initiative, considering it a blueprint that other countries are now seeking to emulate.

Addressing the US-India strategic cooperation forum at the Kennedy Center in Washington, PM Modi urged US businesses to seize the current moment and consider investing in India.

The State Dinner hosted at the White House in honor of Prime Minister Modi saw the presence of influential figures from the tech world and billionaire industrialists, including Mukesh Ambani and Apple CEO Tim Cook. Over 400 guests were invited to the dinner, held at a specially decorated pavilion on the South Lawn of the White House.

In his speech at the State Dinner, PM Modi commended the role of Indian Americans in the comprehensive development of the nation they reside in, emphasizing their significant contribution to strengthening the India-US relationship. He expressed appreciation to President Biden and the First Lady for hosting the dinner and offered a toast to his “wonderful” hosts. Modi delivered his speech in Hindi, which was subsequently translated into English.

Prominent individuals such as Anand Mahindra, Indira Nooyi, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen also attended the event.

The State Dinner menu featured dishes like marinated millet, grilled corn kernel salad, compressed watermelon with a tangy avocado sauce for the first course. The main course included stuffed portobello mushrooms and creamy saffron-infused risotto. Additional dishes served based on guest preferences included sumac-roasted sea bass, lemon-dill yogurt sauce, crisped millet cakes, summer squashes, and a rose and cardamom-infused strawberry shortcake for dessert. The wine selection included Stone Tower Chardonnay “Kristi” 2021, PATEL Red Blend 2019, and Domain Carneros Brut Rose.

The guest list encompassed notable figures such as human rights activist Martin Luther King III, tennis legend Billie Jean King, filmmaker M Night Shyamalan, fashion designer Ralph Lauren, Grammy award winner Joshua Bell, and entrepreneur Frank Islam.
